Department of General Surgery

General Surgery was launched in 2012 within the Department of Surgery of the Faculty of Medicine of TSU and was established as an independent department in 2018.

Clinical bases of the Department:

• Academician O. Gudushauri National Medical Center;
• K. Eristavi National Center of Experimental and Clinical Surgery.

Scientific and research fields:

1. Improving the treatment tactics of  gastric and duodenal ulcer types, complicated with bleeding, against the background of advances in anti-helicobacter therapy;
2. Gastroesophageal reflux disease;
3. Prevention of surgical infections;
4. Minimally invasive surgery of the digestive tract;
5. Prevention and diagnosis of complications after gastric resection and its best treatment;
6. Possibilities of gastric ulcer malignancy, prevention, early diagnosis and treatment;
7. Hepatocellular carcinoma outcome, the risk of its development, and new, highly sensitive tumor markers circulating in the blood, while treatment with Ledipasvir/Sofosbuvir in patients infected with HCV.
